Magnus A.K. Ngoile, Ph.D.


Magnus Ngoile is director of the National Environment Management Council in Tanzania. Ngoile used his Pew fellowship to build on the capacity of poor coastal communities in the Kilwa District to control their own marine resources and adopt integrated coastal management practices that support sustainable fisheries and offer local as well as regional economic benefits. His activities included consultative workshops for participatory development of plans and establishment of local zoning, training in enforcement mechanisms, coastal restoration projects, educational initiatives, and a database for monitoring outcomes.
