overview

Europe is comprised of 47 diverse countries that are bound together by strong historic and cultural ties. Twenty eight of these states make up the European Union; 18 of them sharing a common currency, the euro. The EU has a combined population of 500 million people and is the largest economy in the world by nominal GDP. The EU has been at the forefront of environmental protection and marine conservation, but today economic crisis and increasingly complex political structures are testing decision-makers ability to deliver on their citizens’ expectations.
