Macon, Georgia
Center for Quality Growth and Regional Development; Georgia Department of Public Health; City of Macon; Macon-Bibb County

The Center for Quality Growth and Regional Development (CQGRD) partnered with the Georgia Department of Public Health to conduct an HIA to explore the health impact associated with the redevelopment of a downtown corridor in Macon, Georgia. The population in the study area faces a variety of health challenges, such as low socioeconomic status and educational achievement, and high rates of crime and chronic disease. Additionally, the study area includes a substantial number of vacant and underutilized industrial properties, and lacks healthy food sources as well as transportation access to anchor institutions.
