Restoring Our Nation's Ocean Fish

The Magnuson-Stevens Act is helping dozens of fish stocks recover from overfishing

After decades of overfishing, our nation is making remarkable strides in restoring depleted fish stocks to healthy, sustainable levels.

Thanks to important requirements of the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act, the primary law governing management of U.S. ocean fish, 37 fish populations were rebuilt from 2000 to October 2014. The success of rebuilding under the Magnuson-Stevens Act is apparent. We must stay the course to ensure that more fish populations can continue to recover.
