Since 1974, Pew has been working to strengthen environmental policies and practices to produce significant and measurable results. We support scientific research to increase understanding of environmental issues; design policy solutions to specific problems; and work with our partners to advance clean energy and protect our land and our oceans.
Oceans are home to more than half of the world’s species. Pew is working worldwide to protect sharks, tuna, forage fish, penguins and other species of marine life, as well as the habitat they rely upon for food and shelter. We focus primarily on halting overfishing and illegal fishing, creating marine reserves, and reforming ocean governance.
Pew works with our partners in the United States, Canada and Australia to protect the planet’s most pristine and biologically diverse places for future generations. Together, these three countries contain more than 30 percent of the world’s remaining old growth forests and unspoiled wilderness.
Pew focuses on expanding the American clean energy economy by advocating for policies that encourage the use of electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids to ensure that electric utilities and industries are cleaner and more efficient, and foster innovation through expanded research and development. Our research chronicles clean energy jobs, business and investment trends in the United States and around the world.
