Maryland Again Provides Detailed Elections Data

Maryland recently became the first state to publicly share its responses to the 2014 Election Administration and Voting Survey. The state was also the first to release these data in 2012.

Maryland had 3.7 million active registered voters for the November 2014 election, and 1.7 million of them cast ballots. Other highlights:

• 77.2 percent of voters cast their ballots at polling places on Election Day, compared with 81.6 percent in 2010.
• 17.6 percent cast their ballots at early voting locations, compared with 11.7 percent in 2010, when the state offered early voting for the first time in a general election.
• 3.1 percent cast absentee ballots, compared with 4.7 percent in 2010.
• 2 percent cast provisional ballots, the same as in 2010.

The survey, submitted by all states to the U.S. Election Assistance Commission and administered every two years, gathers data on many issues related to election administration, including voter registration, absentee voting, military and overseas voting, and provisional ballots.
