U.S. Senate Should Act on Community-Supported Bills to Conserve Public Lands and Rivers
Pew backs legislation that balances conservation with recreation and strong local economies
The Pew Charitable Trusts submitted comments for the U.S. Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources’ Dec. 14, 2023, meeting, supporting four bills that would promote resilient ecosystems and local communities in Washington, California, Oregon, and Colorado—and opposing a provision within a Wyoming proposal.
The committee ultimately approved the four bills Pew endorsed: the Wild Olympics Wilderness and Wild and Scenic Rivers Act (S. 1254); the Protecting Unique and Beautiful Landscapes by Investing in California (PUBLIC) Lands Act (S. 1776); the Malheur Community Empowerment for the Owyhee Act (S. 1890); and the Colorado Outdoor Recreation and Economy (CORE) Act (S. 1634).
