Groups Urge Congress to Strengthen Oversight of Diagnostic Tests

On Dec. 12, The Pew Charitable Trusts joined eight groups—representing patients, clinicians, and medical device manufacturers—in submitting a joint letter to leaders of the House and Senate health committees, calling on lawmakers to pass the Verifying Accurate Leading-Edge IVCT Development (VALID) Act as part of their year-end omnibus appropriations package. The legislation would reform federal oversight of diagnostic tests and ensure that all such tests undergo Food and Drug Administration review before reaching the market.
