Prioritize Fight Against Antibiotic Resistance at G7 Summit

The Pew Charitable Trusts joined 60 organizations in asking the U.S. to prioritize the fight against antibiotic resistance at the 2021 G7 Summit. In a letter sent to Department of Health and Human Services Acting Secretary Norris Whitehouse Cochran IV on Feb. 23, the organizations recommended that the U.S. urge G7 countries to address antibiotic resistance with comprehensive strategies, well-resourced national action plans, and clear metrics to track progress against the growing threat of antibiotic-resistant superbugs. The group also called for countries to promote increased research and development of urgently needed new antibiotics with economic incentives and measures such as reimbursement reform.
