Pew Comments on Texas Agency’s Draft Regulations for Regional Flood Planning

The Pew Charitable Trusts submitted comments to the Texas Water Development Board on Jan. 30 supporting regulations it proposed to guide the development of regional flood plans that would set priorities for improved floodplain management and help direct spending for flood mitigation projects.

In its letter, Pew praised the board’s aim of planning for future flood risk and urged officials to give regional planning groups additional technical support to evaluate longer time horizons and complex risk conditions. It also commended the board’s guidance that the groups consider nature-based flood mitigation solutions and recommended that it more fully integrate such beneficial approaches in the final regulatory framework.
