Pew, Others Urge Increased Funding to Combat Superbugs

On March 16, The Pew Charitable Trusts, Costco, Infectious Diseases Society of America, Tyson Foods Inc., Hormel Foods, Cargill Inc., McDonald’s USA LLC, Wal-Mart Stores Inc., Applegate, and Bon Appétit Management Co. submitted a letter to leaders of the U.S. Senate and House Appropriations subcommittees on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies requesting additional resources to support implementation of the National Action Plan for Combating Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria.

The letter urges increased funding to support specific antibiotic resistance efforts at the U.S. Department of Agriculture and FDA.
