Poll: Connecticut Voters Are Concerned About State Public Pension Problems and Support Reforms

Connecticut voters recognize the significant difficulties confronting the state because of its budget shortfall and are concerned about the state employee pension system’s funding problems, according to a recent poll conducted for The Pew Charitable Trusts’ public sector retirement systems project. Registered voters were surveyed in late April 2017, about two-thirds of whom agree that shared sacrifice will be needed to put the state retirement system on a more solid financial footing. Still, many Connecticut residents are concerned about the impact of proposed solutions either on state taxes or on current state employees. Voters said they are dismayed by the failure of state government to prevent the current situation and are looking to the government to make reasonable and responsible modifications to state retirement programs.
