New Data Highlight States’ Use of Online Voter Registration

The Election Assistance Commission has released the results of the 2014 Election Administration and Voting Survey, which contains comprehensive data on election administration across all 50 states and the District of Columbia. According to the survey, voters are increasingly choosing online voter registration when it is available:

  • In Arizona, the first state to launch an online system, almost half of registration forms were submitted online.
  • In California, Colorado, and Oregon, approximately 20 percent of all registrations occurred online.
  • Ohio does not offer online registration for first-time registrants, but registered voters can update their information online, and nearly 13 percent of updates were completed electronically.
