More Illinoisans Voting Early

An increasing number of voters across the nation are casting their ballots before Election Day, and Illinoisans are following suit. Election officials in several counties in the state reported record numbers of early voters in the April 7 election.

  • In Cook County more than 36,000 ballots were cast at early voting sites out of almost 200,000 total ballots cast.
  • In DuPage and Will counties, election officials reported higher rates of early voting than in prior similar elections.
  • Nearly twice as many early votes were cast in Sangamon County compared with the county’s previous average.

County clerks predicted that early voting numbers in 2015 would surpass those from 2013. Cook County Clerk David Orr said he anticipates that nearly half of his county’s ballots for the 2016 presidential election will be cast early or by mail.
