While the recently enacted law requiring photo identification at the polls in Pennsylvania continues to generate controversy, a June Quinnipiac University poll found 66 percent of the state's voters approve of the new rule and 32 percent oppose it. This support is slightly lower than several national polls which have shown 70 to 75 percent of respondents support voter ID. It is also lower than polls in some states where voter ID laws have been proposed like North Carolina and Minnesota.
Additionally, there is a significant partisan split in this support in Pennsylvania:

Nearly all Republicans — 91 percent — support the law.

A strong majority of Independents — 64 percent — also back the law.

But among Democrats, more respondents – 53 percent – oppose the law than support it.
