Research
Obesity constitutes a growing problem worldwide. In Mexico this disease and its co- morbidities are among the primary causes of death and increased health care costs. Adipose tissue is a critical regulator of metabolic homeostasis, modulating appetite, nutrient storage, and whole body energy balance. My current research focuses on the hormonal cues that regulate adipose tissue function and their ultimate involvement in obesity. We are particularly interested in defining the roles of different factors needed for preadipocytes to proliferate and differentiate into new mature adipocytes in health and disease states.
