Pew Welcomes National Park Stimulus

$8.9 million can create nature-based tourism jobs during coronavirus recovery

BRISBANE—The Pew Charitable Trusts welcomed Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk’s announcement today that her government will invest $8.9 million in theNational Parks Works and Jobs Boost program as part of broader COVID-19 economic recovery measures.

Pepe Clarke, a project director for The Pew Charitable Trusts’ Outback to Oceans program, issued the following statement:

“This announcement demonstrates the potential for the conservation and land management sectors to deliver practical, hands-on work for regional communities during the economic recovery period. The investment in our national parks will create meaningful jobs for workers in regional Queensland, including young people hard hit by the economic impacts of COVID-19, while leaving lasting benefits for Queensland’s nature-based tourism industry.”
