Bipartisan Economic Mobility Caucus Launched by U.S. Senators Wyden (D-OR) and Moran (R-KS)

On July 25, Pew's Economic Mobility Project (EMP) joined United States Senators Ron Wyden (D-OR) and Jerry Moran (R-KS) to formally launch the Economic Mobility Caucus—a forum for discussion about the facts and drivers of economic mobility in America.

The launch took place at an event on Capitol Hill, at 9 a.m. ET and engaged a panel of speakers, including EMP Project Manager, Erin Currier and two members of EMP's Principals Group—Harry Holzer from the Urban Institute and Ron Haskins from Brookings' Center on Children and Families.

The Economic Mobility Caucus intends to explore the facts and drivers of economic mobility and provide a forum for dialogue on mobility-enhancing policy solutions.

The Caucus launch follows the release of the Economic Mobility Project's newest study, Pursuing the American Dream, which measures mobility by family income, wealth, race and education levels–revealing how closely tied a person's place on the economic ladder is to that of his or her parents'.  The research shows that while a majority of Americans exceed their parents' family income and wealth, the extent of their absolute mobility gains is not always enough to move them up the economic ladder.
