Student Chef Amazes Peers with Healthy Recipes
Healthy school foods help prepare students for life, according to student chef Jenifer Mendez. With support from her family, she and her team from Manual Arts High School won the 2014 Cooking Up Change competition in Los Angeles, CA, and earned second place in the national competition.
The team’s tasty, colorful meal amazed peers. It consisted of a barbeque chicken flatbread, black bean dip with broccoli spears, and a “Tropical C-Burst” fruit medley. These dishes—loaded with fruits and vegetables—adhere to the same strong nutrition standards and budget constraints as schools across the country.
