Tiny fish play a major role in the ocean's food web. Commonly known as forage fish, small schooling fish like herring and anchovies are a crucial food source for larger, more familiar species like tuna, whales, and seabirds. The Pew Environment Group produced this animation to show how reasonable limits on catching for forage fish can help maintain a vibrant and productive Pacific coast ecosystem for generations to come.
