Virginia Proposal Could End Critical Flood Preparedness Funding

Virginia Proposal Could End Critical Disaster Funding

On March 31, 2023, The Pew Charitable Trusts submitted comments to Virginia’s Department of Environmental Quality regarding Regulatory Action Revision A22, which would repeal regulations that underpin Virginia’s participation in the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI). Pew’s letter urges Governor Glenn Youngkin’s administration to reconsider the proposal and continue the commonwealth’s participation in RGGI or risk effectively defunding Virginia’s Community Flood Preparedness Fund. As of March 2023, Virginia’s participation in RGGI has yielded more than $265 million for the fund, of which over $156 million has been awarded for projects throughout the commonwealth.
