Pew Urges Federal Government to Prioritize Better Sharing of Health Data

The Government Should Prioritize Better Sharing of Health Data

The Pew Charitable Trusts sent comments to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services on June 28 on the agency’s proposed Inpatient Prospective Payment System rule, which will help determine how hospitals are reimbursed for providing care. The comments highlight aspects of the proposal that could expand access to data for public health agencies, patients, and health care providers; improve the safety of health information technology systems, including electronic health records; and increase the use of application programming interfaces to share information between systems.
