The Pew Charitable Trusts has urged the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to adopt more significant antibiotic reimbursement policies to better stabilize the antibiotics market. In a letter sent to the agency on June 14, 2021, Pew encouraged CMS to embrace reimbursement reforms such as those laid out in the Developing an Innovative Strategy for Antimicrobial Resistant Microorganisms (DISARM) Act of 2019. Additionally, Pew recommended that CMS work to preserve the efficacy of existing antibiotics by partnering with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to facilitate increased reporting on antibiotic use and resistance.
