Measures to Combat Superbugs Are Essential to Public Health Preparedness

On July 8, The Pew Charitable Trusts and a coalition of stakeholders sent a letter to Senator Lamar Alexander, chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, urging him to address the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance as a key component of the country’s public health pandemic preparedness. The letter was in response to the chairman’s white paper, “Preparing for the Next Pandemic,” and included specific recommendations for strengthening antibiotic stewardship, surveillance, and innovation.
