The Pew Charitable Trusts, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology, the March of Dimes, the American Public Health Association, the National Association of County and City Health Officials, and the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine thanked Representatives Bob Latta (R-OH), Diana DeGette (D-CO), Michael Burgess, M.D. (R-TX), Gene Green (D-TX), Brett Guthrie (R-KY), and Debbie Dingell (D-MI) in an April 3 letter for introducing H.R. 5333, a bill that would reform regulation of over-the-counter (OTC) drugs.
The legislation incorporates Pew’s principles for such reform. It would eliminate the burdensome rule-making process for changing OTC monographs and allow for more funding for the Food and Drug Administration through new user fees.
