Pew Urges Pennsylvania Legislature to Support Bill to Improve State Pension System’s Security and Sustainability

On June 5, 2017, The Pew Charitable Trusts sent a letter to members of the Pennsylvania Legislature providing a preliminary analysis of S.B. 1, a measure to improve the security and sustainability of the state retirement system for public employees. In the letter, Greg Mennis, director of Pew’s public sector retirement systems project, outlines the reasons that Pew supports passage of the legislation, noting that it would lower costs and risks for taxpayers, preserve a path to retirement for public workers, and build on previous legislation to achieve full funding of the state’s pension system.
