Pew Comments on Proposed Implementation of Federal Flood Risk Management Standard

The Pew Charitable Trusts submitted comments Jan. 30 in support of a proposed rule by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to implement Executive Order 13690, which establishes the Federal Flood Risk Management Standard. The standard requires federal agencies to consider current and future risk when taxpayer dollars are used to build or rebuild in flood plains. Pew supports the Corps’ proposal, which will lead to wiser investment of federal funds to achieve long-term benefits. The comments clarify how existing policy and guidance relate to the proposal and include recommendations on how to apply the standard.
