Genetics & Public Policy Center—Ensuring Policy Keeps Pace with Emerging Technology

Over the past 20 years, science has made astonishing progress in mapping the human genome. Physicians, researchers and health care organizations are rapidly integrating the emerging technology into practice, and new diagnostic tools and therapies seem to be announced daily. Each advance, however, leaves many Americans struggling to keep up with the host of ethical, legal and social concerns it raises. As society races to claim the medical benefits, it must also address the many ethical dilemmas, safety concerns and privacy issues associated with technologies that manipulate the building blocks of life.
