Support for CITES Proposals Goes Global

Countries all over the world have become co-sponsors of one or more of the measures to protect silky and thresher sharks and mobula rays that will be considered at the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) Conference of the Parties in September 2016. Deciding to back the proposals is a recognition that listing these threatened species on CITES Appendix II—which requires that all continuing international trade be sustainable—could make the difference between recovery and extinction for each.
