Sellwood Bridge Replacement
The HIA, undertaken by the Multnomah County Health Department, assessed the potential health benefits and adverse impacts of the proposed Sellwood Bridge replacement in Multnomah County, Oregon. The HIA addressed a draft environmental impact statement (DEIS) that had been undertaken by Multnomah County. The purpose of the HIA was to forecast the positive and negative health effects of the project, and propose potential mitigation strategies that could be implemented practically without “unduly burdening the project.” Overall, the HIA noted that the project as proposed had notable health benefits in that it strongly supported the needs of cyclists and pedestrians. Recommendations addressed included additional specific measures to maximize safety along the corridor; measures to maintain safe air quality during construction; and maintaining safe noise levels during construction.
