Organization Washtenaw County Public Health (WCPH)

The potential health impacts of extreme heat and/or more frequent heat waves and heat wave emergencies on community health were assessed through a community-based survey. The survey was available online and at community-based locations and was offered in English and multiple languages. Results provided critical information about risk perception, emergency readiness, potential response actions and understanding of existing alert systems and resources among a broad spectrum of residents. Recommendations were crafted for preparing for and responding to extreme heat and other emergencies that impact health and that are more likely to have a disproportionate impact on low-income, vulnerable and medically fragile residents based on the survey results.
