On Aug. 24, 2015, Pew hosted a webinar for the Clean Energy Business Network titled “Fuel Efficiency for the Long Haul—An Overview of Proposed Standards for Medium- and Heavy-Duty Vehicles.” The webinar reviewed proposed standards for fuel efficiency and greenhouse gas emissions that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) released on June 19, 2015.
Chuck Moulis, senior environmental engineer with the EPA, and Jim Tamm, fuel economy division chief with NHTSA, provided an overview of the draft “Phase 2” rules, which included the vehicle categories regulated and the anticipated benefits.
Mike O’Connell, senior director of fleet supply chain with PepsiCo, discussed his company’s efforts to promote fuel efficiency while meeting its business requirements. Finally, Bill Van Amburg, senior vice president at CALSTART, presented his organization’s latest report, “Higher Fuel Economy—Working for Fleets,” to show what higher gas mileage requirements would mean for fleet owners’ cash flow.
