Pew Scholar Among MIT Technology Review’s “35 Innovators Under 35”

2013 Pew scholar Manu Prakash is included among MIT Technology Review’s list of “35 Innovators Under 35” for 2014. Every year, the technology publication compiles a list of young inventors, visionaries, humanitarians, pioneers, and entrepreneurs who are addressing significant challenges in their fields.

Prakash was selected for his work as a visionary who engineers tools to make science more accessible and affordable to non-scientists and those in remote locations. As an assistant professor of bioengineering at Stanford University, his innovations include an inexpensive paper microscope, a smartphone app to detect oral cancers, and a chemistry set made from music box parts.

Foldscope is a new approach for mass manufacturing of optical microscopes that are printed-and-folded from a single flat sheet of paper. (Manu Prakash)
