Save the Date: the Second National HIA Meeting will take place on September 24-25, 2013

GRANTEE NEWS

Building on the success of the Inaugural National Health Impact Assessment meeting in April 2012, the second national HIA conference will convene policymakers, public health professionals, HIA practitioners and others with an interest in learning more about the field. It also will offer a special, one-day tailored summit specifically to policymakers.

New to this year’s agenda are optional, half-day Post-Conference Discussion Sessions on September 26. Pre-registration is required for Post-Conference Discussion Sessions. Topics for discussions will be available prior to registration.

If you’re new to HIA, the thrust is that many of the leading health challenges facing Americans—like obesity, asthma, diabetes, heart disease and injuries—are driven by conditions in places where we live and work. Doctors can treat heart attacks, but they can’t prevent one if it’s triggered by air pollution. A doctor can tell someone to exercise more, but if they live somewhere without a safe place to walk, it may be hard for them to follow that advice. Decision makers and communities are increasingly using HIA as a practical tool to bring health information to the decisions that shape those places. This conference is a chance to learn more about this fast-growing field.

Registration will open in February. News to come about registration, abstract submission and scholarship applications via this website and future editions of the e-newsletter.
