Precincts With One Voter?

Return to Election Data Dispatches.

Kentucky’s redrawn House and Senate districts are causing some confusion in Warren County, according to the Daily News. The new district lines, which cut across state and local legislative districts, may increase the number of precincts in the county from 64 to as many as 150.

The increase in precincts may result in higher election costs. Running a precinct in the county costs about $20,000, according to Warren County Clerk Dot Owens. And officials must provide a venue and voting equipment for each precinct even if there are very few voters in that precinct.

“There may be only one person coming in to vote (in a precinct). And there’s nothing we can do about it,” said Owens.
