Pew Names Nasserie Carew as Senior Vice President and Chief Communications Officer

WASHINGTON—The Pew Charitable Trusts announced today the appointment of Nasserie Carew as senior vice president for communications and chief communications officer, effective Nov. 1. Carew will lead the organization’s efforts to enhance its reputation for providing trusted information and recommendations to policymakers and the public.

“Nasserie has brought a wealth of experience in global communications and public affairs to Pew, and I know she will continue improving our impact in this role,” said Susan K. Urahn, Pew’s president and chief executive officer. “Since joining us in 2020, Nasserie has strengthened our outreach with federal, state, and local policymakers, our many programmatic partners, and other key audiences to support our ambitious research and public policy goals.”

“I’m humbled to lead Pew’s effective and innovative communications team and to support the organization’s efforts to deepen our engagement and promote our global work to serve the public,” said Carew. “Pew is honored to hold a reputation for providing trusted facts, data, and policy recommendations to our many constituencies, and I look forward to working with colleagues across the institution to build on our many strengths.”

Before joining Pew, Carew served as the U.S. Agency for Global Media’s first chief global communications officer, working with the agency’s five media networks to coordinate external, internal, and crisis communications on issues affecting the networks and the broader global media organization. Carew also worked at the U.S. Department of State as senior adviser to the assistant secretary of public affairs and directed communications in the State Department’s Ebola coordination unit. Her early communications experience includes serving as managing director of public affairs at the Millennium Challenge Corp. and tenures at InterAction and YWCA USA.

Carew holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa and a master’s degree from Howard University.
