Fiscal Federalism Initiative

PROFILE

Peter Muller helps lead Pew’s fiscal federalism initiative. In this role he conducts research and analysis on how federal funding affects state budgets and how states can better prepare for the budgetary impacts of natural disasters and other emerging fiscal risks. 

Before joining Pew, Muller worked as a legislative attorney for the Tennessee General Assembly, where he focused on appropriations, health care, and tax issues, and later served as the House director for the nonpartisan Office of Legislative Budget Analysis, advising legislators on a wide range of issues related to the state budget.

Muller holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Chicago, a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from the University of Mississippi, and a law degree from Vanderbilt University.
