Glen Holmes
PROFILE
Glen Holmes is an officer in Pew’s international fisheries program where he leads engagement in three of the world’s five tuna regional fisheries management organizations (RFMOs): the Indian Ocean Tuna Commission (IOTC), the Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission (WCPFC) and the Convention for the Conservation of Southern Bluefin Tuna (CCSBT).
He has been working in the environmental field as a marine ecologist for more than 20 years. After initially training as a chemical engineer and working with environmental problems associated with both agriculture and industry, his love of the ocean pushed him in a new direction, completing his marine ecology PhD in 2009 from The University of Queensland. His research focused on modelling large-scale changes to tropical marine ecosystems and the development of management tools that could be used by governments with limited capacity.
Glen has also previously worked as an independent environmental advisor on marine and coastal ecosystem issues undertaking projects for both government and non-government associated organizations such as Australia’s Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority and the World Bank as well as coordinated and lectured courses in environmental management at The University of Queensland.
