PROFILE

Elaine Young works on Pew’s efforts to end illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing for the international fisheries project. In this role, she leads research on implementation of international agreements such as the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization’s 2009 Port State Measures Agreement and helps key stakeholders identify ways to better detect IUU fishing.

Before joining Pew, Young was a team leader for the U.K. government’s Department for Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), focusing on fisheries subsidies. Before that, she was a senior policy lead on IUU fishing legislation for DEFRA.

Young holds a bachelor’s degree in business studies from the University of Paisley (now the University of the West of Scotland) and a master’s in environmental management from the University of Stirling.
