Countdown to 2020

How far has the EU come in ending overfishing?

Countdown to 2020: How Far Has the EU Come in Ending Overfishing?

Four years after the reformed Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) entered into force, the 2020 deadline to end overfishing in European Union waters is quickly approaching.

On Wednesday, 21 February 2018, The Pew Charitable Trusts hosted an all-day conference, “Countdown to 2020: How Far Has the EU Come in Ending Overfishing?” in Brussels. The event brought together decision makers and stakeholders from across Europe for a dialogue on the progress made in implementing the CFP and additional steps to secure sustainable fisheries by 2020.

Watch the event rebroadcast to hear insights from policymakers, industry leaders, environmentalists and others. Karmenu Vella, the European commissioner for environment, maritime affairs and fisheries, delivered the keynote address.
