Meet the Team

Andrew Blevins Officer

Andrew Blevins is an officer with The Pew Charitable Trusts’ retirement savings project. He provides research and analysis on retirement savings barriers, retirement policy proposals, and retirement plan fees to policymakers, regulators, and other stakeholders at the state and federal levels. Previously, Blevins worked with Pew’s consumer banking project. Before joining Pew, he worked at Chapin Hall at the University of Chicago, focusing on community development. Blevins holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Lawrence University and a master’s in public policy from the University of Chicago’s Harris School.

Theron Guzoto Principal Associate

Theron Guzoto is a principal associate with Pew’s retirement savings project. He investigates the barriers to saving for retirement, the implications of current state and federal policy proposals for increasing saving, and the impact of retirement plan fee disclosures. Before joining Pew, Guzoto was a policy fellow at Community Change, conducting research and analyses on the U.S. Social Security program. He has also researched political economy and governance at Georgetown University. Guzoto holds a bachelor’s degree in politics, philosophy, and economics from Western Washington University and a master’s in public policy from Georgetown’s McCourt School of Public Policy.

Mark Hines Officer

Mark Hines is a principal associate with Pew’s retirement savings project. He uses survey research and program and administrative data to study public perceptions of state and federal retirement policy proposals, and attitudes about participation in retirement savings programs. Before joining Pew, Hines was a policy analyst at the U.S. Social Security Administration, focusing on benefits for children and surviving spouses as well as implementation of the Obergefell v. Hodges decision. He holds a bachelor’s degree in anthropology and political science from Washington University in St. Louis, a master’s degree in public policy from Georgetown University’s McCourt School, and a doctorate in government from Georgetown. 

Desiree A. Hung Officer

Desiree A. Hung is a member of Pew’s retirement savings team, providing advice, outreach, and technical assistance to state governments considering or implementing auto-IRA programs. Before joining Pew, Hung served as a chief lobbyist for AARP Pennsylvania. Serving 17 years in this role, Hung worked on many issues affecting Pennsylvania citizens, including retirement savings, housing, transportation, broadband access, Social Security, and Medicare. She is also the co-author of How to Start a Business in Pennsylvania. Hung received a bachelor’s degree in judicial history from Sweet Briar College and a Juris Doctor from Ohio Northern University.

Kim Olson Senior Officer

Kim Olson provides expertise and technical assistance to state governments studying, legislating, or implementing automated savings programs as part of Pew’s retirement savings team. These programs provide private sector employees who lack access to workplace retirement savings plans with a simple way to make regular IRA contributions via payroll deduction.

John Scott directs Pew’s retirement savings project, which conducts original research and works with experts and policymakers to understand the barriers to retirement savings in the United States; policy initiatives that might increase retirement savings; and whether strengthening the disclosure of fees can help employers and employees make better decisions about retirement plans.

Alison Shelton conducts research on access to and participation in retirement savings plans such as 401(k)s and auto-IRAs as part of Pew’s retirement savings team. Before joining Pew, Shelton worked at AARP’s Public Policy Institute
