PROFILE

Victoria Sheppard helps to lead Pew’s conservation Canada project in Ottawa (on traditional unceded territory of the Anishnaabeg people), where she works with partners to ensure progress toward Canada’s marine conservation goals, from marine protection to sustainable fishing to low-impact shipping. Previously, Sheppard spent two years as a manager with Pew’s ending overfishing in northwestern Europe and international fisheries northeast Atlantic campaigns.

Before coming to Pew, Sheppard held various positions with the Canadian government in Ottawa, including deputy director of international regulatory cooperation with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency and acting manager of marine conservation with Fisheries and Oceans Canada, where she worked on policy development and on establishment of Canada’s network of marine protected areas. Most recently, she worked in the trade group at Canada’s mission to the European Union. 

Sheppard holds a bachelor’s degree in marine and freshwater biology from the University of Guelph and a master’s degree in environmental studies from Dalhousie University, both in Canada.
