The lab works together to understand how neuron structure is established and maintained so that neurons can function properly. Neuronal function requires that these cells are highly polarized and span long distances in the body. This means that intracellular transport is critical for neuronal function and survival, and any defects in transport can manifest as neurodegenerative disease. The two major areas of study in the lab right now are microtubule polarity in neurons and neuronal responses to injury.
