PROFILE

David Hyun, M.D., directs Pew’s state health solutions project, which works with policymakers to narrow health disparities, reduce health care costs, and reach better outcomes by improving how data is used. The project helps states to establish data partnerships between their public health departments and Medicaid agencies that can leverage the health information they already have to improve the quality of care. Hyun also directs Pew’s antibiotic resistance project, which supports policies that remove regulatory, economic, and scientific barriers to the discovery of new antibiotics and ensures that antibiotics are prescribed only when necessary.

Before joining Pew, Hyun practiced medicine at Children’s National Medical Center, where he developed and co-chaired the antibiotic stewardship program. He also was an assistant professor of pediatrics at George Washington University School of Medicine. Hyun has published and lectured widely on managing antibiotic use in inpatient and outpatient settings.

Hyun holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of Minnesota and a Doctor of Medicine from Ohio State University’s College of Medicine. He completed his residency in pediatrics at Indiana University and a fellowship program in pediatric infectious disease at Baylor College of Medicine.
