Mundialmente famosa por sus Moai, la Isla de Pascua – también conocida como Rapa Nui – representa uno de los espacios más emblemáticos del mundo. Ubicada aproximadamente a 4.000 kilómetros al oeste del territorio chileno continental, esta isla es reconocida como Patrimonio Mundial de la UNESCO, y hoy, con la reciente creación del Área Marina Costera Protegida de Múltiples Usos Rapa Nuien 2018, los tesoros marinos de esta isla remota también están protegidos. Las aguas que rodean Isla de Pascua albergan biodiversidad única, la cual provee a los habitantes de la isla, el pueblo Rapa Nui, con alimento y sostiene tradiciones culturales vinculadas al mar.
