Research

Our research group is interested in studying the mechanisms that are affected as a consequence of two periods of maternal separation during nursing. To do this, we are analyzing the behavior, the neurodevelopment and the expression of different proteins involved in learning, memory and anxiety behavior. Furthermore, we are studying the role of glucocorticoid receptors in vitro, as possible modulators of the stress response, and learning and memory processes. Finally, in rats we found that maternal separation during nursing induces hyperactivity, therefore we are just beginning to explore if in humans, the maternal-baby interaction is related to attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.
