Pew Endorses Oregon’s Coastal Needs Assessment and Strategy
Letter commends key provisions of proposed 2021-25 plan
On Sept. 7, The Pew Charitable Trusts submitted comments to the Oregon Coastal Management Program on the state’s Coastal Needs Assessment and Strategy for 2021-25. The letter expressed support for the program’s focus on incorporating nearshore hazards and climate impacts in its enforceable policies, continuing assistance for local resilience planning, and modernizing decades-old estuary management plans to reflect the best available science. Pew also backed updating the state’s Territorial Sea Plan to include an ecosystem-based approach to resource management designed to identify and protect ecologically rich areas in coastal and offshore waters.
