PROFILE

Nicole Bransome works on Pew’s Protecting Antarctica’s Southern Ocean project, which focuses on conserving an area that encompasses 10% of the world’s ocean through the creation of a network of large-scale marine protected areas (MPAs) around Antarctica. Since joining Pew in 2014, she has helped secure an MPA designation for Antarctica’s Ross Sea; an extension of an ecosystem-based management measure for the Antarctic krill fishery; and 100% observer coverage on krill fishing vessels.

Before Pew, Bransome conducted coral reef health assessments and interviews of fishing communities on Mexico’s section of the vast Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System. Bransome also worked at the United States Department of the Interior, where she advanced ecosystem-based management policies across several federal agencies through the National Ocean Policy, and coral reef conservation through the U.S. Coral Reef Task Force.

Bransome holds a bachelor’s degree in biology, ecology, behavior and evolution from the University of California, San Diego’s Division of Biological Sciences.
