PROFILE

Christabel Mitchell leads Pew’s marine conservation work in Australia, working with local partners, Traditional Owners, scientists, and communities on securing large-scale enduring outcomes for nature and people.

Mitchell’s work has contributed to the creation of Australia’s National Marine Parks Network, the Christmas Island and Cocos (Keeling) Islands Marine Parks, a ban on seabed mining in the Northern Territory and the development of the Northern Territory’s Coast and Marine Management Strategy.

Before joining Pew, Mitchell worked with the Australian Marine Conservation Society leading the Save Our Marine Life alliance – a group of 27 conservation organisations working to protect Australia's marine life and way of life. Previously, she was National Communications Manager for The Wilderness Society in Australia, and coordinated an energy efficiency and fuel poverty alliance of 120 organisations in the UK. Mitchell lives in Perth and holds a Bachelor of Psychology degree from Cardiff University.
