海は私たちにとって不可欠です。 海は、地球の面積の70パーセントを占め、多岐にわたる海洋生物、共同体、そして雇用­を支えています。しかし、私たちがその海を大事に扱っているとはいえません。 これまでにその回復力を発揮してきたものの、海が私たちに与えられるものには限りがあ­ります。この6月、世界初の地球サミットがリオデジャネイロで開催された20周年を記­念して、世界各国の首脳たちは、持続可能な開発を推進させるという政治的決意を新たに­するため、国連持続可能な開発会議(リオ+20)に再び集合します。このリオ+20会­議における政治課題は幅広く大胆なものですが、その中でも、海を中心的な課題とする時­がやってきました!海は長期間、最優先事項でなかったため、その軽視の結果が今や露呈­されています。首脳たちは、この傾向を修正することで、私たちの海が海洋と人間の生命­をこの先何十年にもわたって支えていけることを確実にできるのです。
